EndGame Druids

Basically, your choices for endgame are feral or resto. IMHO, Dancekin (oomkin, balance) druids are like opinions, we all want to have them, but they mostly suck (for raiding), though I've seen some raiding guilds with them.

So, the choice, resto or feral? That can either depend on what you want to do, or what your guild wants or needs. Should you choose feral, you're going to want high armor and stamina gear for starters, then get agility and either strength or attack power to help increase your threat per second (tps). Defense rating is another very important stat that tanking druids want, though sometimes it's not as available to us on the gear we want. For tanking raids like Karazhan or tanking heroic instances, you'll want at the very least 23,000 armor in bear form and 12,000 to 13,000 health in bear form, all self buffed. These are only for starters, the higher, the better. When I first offtanked Kara, I had just under 26,000 armor and somewhere between those health numbers. Elixirs, food buffs, and player buffs helped to bring me between 16,000 and 17,000 health, and at one point before they nerfed the amount of elixirs, etc you could have, I came very close to cracking 20,000 health (I think I actually did break it). Lately I began trading off some armor for higher stam, dropping down to the 24,000s in armor, but up to around 15,000 health. In a more recent Kara run, I was steady at 19,000 health until our warrior put up commanding shout to bring me well over 20,000 health. My defense says 448, but should be higher because of the survival of the fittest talent that I get. But this is only what I've gone for. You'll probably want a bit more agility for the higher dodge rating and if you can get your strength/attack power up without sacrificing the other more important stats, then go for it. It will greatly increase your TPS, allowing for easier hold against the dps players that are well geared. (especially those psycho mages and locks).

Or you chose to be a healer, which I am currently. First thing you want is to get your +healing way up. If you're with a guild in Kara that is decked out and know what they're doing, then you can get away with 900 healing as a THIRD healer. Those other two healers better be decked out. Otherwise, I'd suggest a minimum of 1300 to 1400 +healing (I'm just under 1600 unbuffed). The next thing is to keep your mana around 8,000 (higher if you can get it without sacrificing too much healing) and health around 7,000. Spirit, well that depends on the type of healer you chose to be, resto (tree) or dreamstate. The dreamstate (33/0/28) spec goes down the balance tree to get the dreamstate talent, as well as the Lunar Guidance and Moonglow talents. The rest go down the resto tree to enhance your healing touch spell. If you go that route, spirit might not be as important, but you certainly don't want to be without it; every little bit helps. Now, as a full (or near full) restoration healer, you'll want more spirit as it will help you in tree of life (TOL) form.

Gearing Up

Feral Tanks: There's definitely a lot of gear out there to get before you even think of going to Kara as a tank. This is one thing that many people I've run into can't seem to get into their heads. They think they can get to 70, rush to get the Key and go in. If you want to die thousands of times, then more power to you. Otherwise you can go get gear. Karazhan is not easy for under-geared and inexperience players. Once your group is well geared and have learned it, it's really easy. Now for our gear. Most of a tanking druid's gear comes from quest chains and reputation with the Outlands factions. Only a couple of pieces drop from instances A lot of the pieces I got were found from inspecting other druids and being amazed at the high armor values on the pieces. Something that, until then, I couldn't even dream as being possible. As you progress through getting these pieces, you can start looking at other options, such as some pieces from PVP battlegrounds and/or arenas. Like I said above, I started to trade some armor off for higher stamina.

Weapons:
Earthwarden Best tanking weapon to have pre and post Kara (SSC drops better). Comes from being Exalted with the Sha'tar
Staff of Beasts Great staff to get for tanking. Comes from doing the Ring of Blood quest chain

Head:
Merciless Dragonhide High armor and stam, includes other stats needed as well. Don't have this yet, but it would help a lot.
Gladiator's Dragonhide A step down, but nonetheless would be a great item to get.
Exorcist's Dragonhide Another great helm, and my current one.
Exorcist's Wyrmhide Or you could get this one for the higher stam, but you lose the strength and agility of the other.
